Scaphoid

The trapezium articulates with the scaphoid bone, trapezoid bone, the first metacarpal and the second metacarpal.

The scaphoid bone is shaped like a boat and resembles a cashew nut in appearance. It is proximal to the ulna and radius bones of the arm.

It is positioned at the end of the ulna and radius which are arm bones and has a complex structure that supports other bones in the proximal and distal carpal rows.

The scaphoid is a carpal bone which is unique in both its shape and function. It has a three-dimensionally oblique orientation and performs a unique function as a mechanical link between the distal and proximal carpal rows on the radial aspect.
