External Hemorrhoid Tissue

Hemorrhoids are usually associated with chronic constipation and prolonged sitting in the toilet that impedes the blood flow to that area, thus leading to the pooling of blood in the vessels. External Hemorrhoids may occur at the anal opening and might hang outside anus. They usually lie within the anus and are very painful to bear. If the External Hemorrhoids prolapse to the anus, possibly during the course of passing stool, you can see and feel them.

External hemorrhoids are not an issue until thrombus (blood clots) forms in them. Sometimes blood clots are formed within the External Hemorrhoid causing a painful condition and ischemia. If thrombus is formed, external hemorrhoids may change color from red to purple or blue and could possibly bleed. Although External Hemorrhoids are extremely painful yet they are not that serious an issue. They tend to resolve in a couple of weeks.

TREATMENT

The treatment mainly involves intake of dietary fibers and oral fluids to maintain hydration. NSAIDs, stool softeners, and other suppositories like steroids are the part of conservative treatment. External Hemorrhoids can also be treated by one of the following three methods.

  •  Infrared Photocoagulation.
  •  Laser Coagulation.
  •  Hemorrhoidectomy.

For the treatment of thrombosed external Hemorrhoid either Drainage of Hemorrhoid or Hemorrhoidectomy is recommended.
