Biceps Brachii Muscle

ORIGIN AND INSERTION

It is originated from scapula by two heads; short head arises from the coracoid process of the scapula and long head arising from supraglenoid tubercle of scapula. The insertion is through a bicipital aponeurosis to the tuberosity of radius and fascia of the forearm.

NERVE SUPPLY

It gets its nervous supply from the musculocutaneous nerve (C5, C6, C7), a major nerve of brachial plexus.

BLOOD SUPPLY

The blood supply of brachialis is through the muscular branches of brachial artery.

FUNCTIONS

Bicep flexes and supinates the forearm with its short head supporting the scapula preventing the dislocation of shoulder. The supinator action of biceps brachii is most prominent and stronger in case of the pronated forearm.
